Dianne Garcia- Sunday Style- “A Beautiful Soul”

1. Who is Dianne Garcia

Dianne’s your youngest stylist in the game based out of Los Angeles, California.

2. How did your upbringing effect your style?

I grew up in Bangkok around a lot of boys so I was always a little rough. When it comes to style I think I’ve always chose clothing that isn’t restricting to my daily activities. I was waist deep into the sneakers culture in high school because the boys seemed to love it and I did too. When all the other girls were wearing cute sandals and mini skirts I just kind of went against the grain. I listened to a lot of hip-hop and that had a lot to do with the clothing too. Eventually, all of that died down for me especially the whole sneaker game but you’ll still catch me in sweats and Jordans on a rainy day.

3. Who do you think is a stylish well put together person?

Erin Wasson. She looks so effortless all the time. Erin really makes a casual outfit look like a million bucks and she probably did it without looking at the mirror once before leaving the house. Now that’s stylish.

4. What is your personal style like.

I’m a creature of comfort. I live in LA first of all, and I work a lot. Plus, my work really isn’t all glits and glam so I’m always running around all day on my feet from 12-16 hours a day. Comfort and functionality is a big factor for me. I like things that are comfortable, but put together well enough to look presentable and then I’ll go all out on accessories. Over-sized rings, sunglasses, bracelets, you name it. It’s the special pieces that counts.

5. What is something you just won’t wear?

Uggs! That, and a mini skirt. It’s even worse when you put the two together. You can’t possibly be season appropriate with that combination and it’s just unflattering in general. I don’t think people should follow any type of fads. The only thing you should follow is your gut feeling when you look in the mirror before you leave the house. So yeah, Uggs are a no-go on my list.

5. What is your definition of FLY?

Fly is when you’re comfortable in your own skin and your own identity while KNOWING what works for you. You can’t just be blind-sided thinking you’re fly either. I think it’s finding that signature look for yourself and wearing it with a persona behind it. I’d hate to use the word “swag” but that’s basically what it is. Jay-z’s got it, TI’s got it, Swizz’s got it.

6. Dream client would be and why?

I’d have to say Jay-z. My biggest dream when it comes to work is to respect and be inspired by your subject. His music moves me in when it comes to the grinding mentality, so I can only imagine working side by side with him as his stylist. That would just blow my mind. Jay-z knows who he is and what he wants. He’s not an artist that I would have to create an image FOR in order to enhance his record sales. He’s a staple in this industry. He’s always been true to his identity since Reasonable Doubt and probably always will be. On the other side, I think MIA would just be amazing to work with creative-wise. I met her once with my friend Ibn Jasper at a Jimmy Choo fashion show where she performed and she was absolutely amazing. She’s very down to earth. I’d really love to work with her.

7. If you could change one thing about Fashion and the business of fashion what would it be?

The elitist mentality. Snooty people drives me insane.

8. What era would you have wanted to grow up in as far as style goes?

It would have to be the mid 1940’s to the 1950’s. Personally, I’m not much of a girly girl at all but there’s something about that 1950’s pinup era that’s absolutely appealing to me. I guess it’s kind of like my alter ego. Garments were strategically constructed to enhance the feminine assets, and curvy women were much appreciated. There was a lot of elegance and grace to the whole era. That’s something that’s hard to find today.

9. 2 things a male or female must have on a daily basis?

Presentable outfit and a business card.

10. Pet Peeve?

Ditsiness. Sorry, that ain’t fly with any outfit you’re in.
